Textbook Rental Reviews

1. Chegg.com – This is hands down one of the most popular textbook rental site for college students. They have 3 different rental periods you can choose from and you have the option to buy the book your rented. As a give back to the community project, Chegg will plant a tree everytime you rent their books. They also offer affiliate program for the students. You also use a Chegg coupon before checking out which can further reduce the cost of your books.

2. BookRenter.com – This number three on the list is still debatable. From the many forums and review sites about textbook rentals, it comes as number three but has a handful of complaints from previous renters about their shipping days. Just like CampusBookRentals and Cheggs, BookRenter has the same offers although they slightly differ in fees, costs and length of rental options.

3. CampusBookRentals.com – From their website, you can see that they have several advantages posted. They offer free shipping both ways, 30-day risk free returns, live customer support, large selection of books and most flexible rental periods. Sounds great right? It is easy to go online and look for the textbooks that you need. You can enter the ISBN number, author, title or keywords to find your book. Select the correct book, the rental period, and checkout. You need to log in to your account to be able to checkout. It is easy to register and no fee is required to register. Rental periods can ba as long as 130 days (semester), 85 days (quarter), and 55 days (summer). They also have a 15-day grace period in case you need to hold on to the book a while longer.  And the best thing of all is that you are also contributing to their various humanitarian projects.

We are happy to announce we are now showing the Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings for book buyback and textbook rental companies.  If you click on the letter grade it will take you to the respective BBB information page so you can see more information about eCampus, Chegg, TextbooksRus, etc.

As you will see most companies keep a very good rating which reflects attention to customer service.  A poor rating does not mean a company is necessarily bad, but you should be aware that if you sell your book or a rent a textbook from a company with a poor rating you might have some serious customer service issues or get no response at all.  We will monitor each rating once a month for changes.

We are not showing ratings for large markets (Amazon, Half.com, etc) because you are generally buying from marketplace sellers on these venues, and therefore need to review their individual feedback reviews and ranks.  Remember anything less than say 95-97% feedback rating on a venue like Amazon means if you need customer service help you might be out of luck.  If you are buying from these large marketplaces, including Valore Books, make sure to read the individual description of the textbook your are trying to buy for college.

Keep your comments and suggestions coming as we strive to keep everyone informed about the book buying, renting, and selling market.
