You’re not a human when you don’t commit mistakes. It’s a part of being the most highly intellectual species on earth. Apart from being young, college students still have to go through trial and error process since it is their first time to get to be in their own, managing their time, money and other resources. Many of them will make basic mistakes that can be simply avoided. The discussion below provides you the five most common mistakes college students make.
Error 1 – Overloading
Taking up too many courses in school will lead you into overload of school work, projects and not leave you enough time to relax and enjoy your time at College. Don’t try to be superman and and take on too much workload, you will end up only doing half as well as if you had taken on fewer courses because you will be spreading your time too thin and wearing yourself out..
Error 2 – Cutting classes
Every lecture day is important even though you may feel that some times it’s just a waste of time. Remember you are at College to learn and the information you receive in class is paramount to you getting the most from your learning. Skipping classes means that you will miss out on valuable opportunities to ask questions of your professors and also to gain insight from other students questions. So while some classes may seem a waste of your time, you will benefit from consistency if you are able to attend most classes.
Error 3 – Too much social media
A lot of college students engaged in different types of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Multiply and the likes. These give them reason that they don’t have their precious time for studying but spending hours and hours of updating their status and chatting with their friends. You need to limit your time on social media to make sure you are not spending valuable studying hours being distracted by them. You may need to make times during the day or night that are social media free, so that you can be free of distraction and focus on your studies.
Error 4 – Procrastinating
Once you get to College you are given assignments and projects that may be due at the end of a semester, giving you a long time to do them. It is best not to procrastinate on them and leave them to last minute. Procrastination is a hard thing to overcome, but if you break your assignments and projects down into small manageable chunks you will find that when it comes to the end of the semester and time to hand it in you will be ahead of the pack.
Error 5 – Worried about asking for help
A lot of students commit this kind of mistake as they may be too scared to see their teachers and ask for help as they may see themselves as being inadequate or embarrassed that they do not understand. As a result, they end up not fixing things or end up not finishing some of the work, when in fact if they had of asked for help the teacher could have done something about it.
You only get one chance at your College education, so make it count, don’t take on too much so that you can enjoy your time there. Because College is not only about academic learning, it’s also about learning life skills. To do that you need to socialise, have fun and live life to the fullest!
