
Listing down the things you will have to bring to college seems a pretty simple task to do until you look at it again and recheck if those are really important and guess what- it will take you a few hours of assessing whether to bring them or not. So to help you decide what to bring and leave behind, check out the list below.
While every student’s situation is really unique from each other, there will always be general don’t-bring items that should not be brought to college, whether you’re a senior or first year student and whether you’re staying at a large college and small one.
High school clothes. Some of the clothes you wore in high school are just as fine to bring to college but you could leave your junior shirts since there will be a lot of college shirts you will have when you enter college.
Out of season clothes. If you haven’t worn the clothes in the last 6 months, then don’t bother bringing them, because chances are you wont wear them at College, especially if they are no longer in season.
High school supplies. Leave all the things you had in high school even though it reminds you of good memories. They are all space consuming. If you have a few small special keepsakes that you use for motivation, bring these along, but try to limit what you bring.
Expensive electronics and equipment. Unfortunately, having the luxury of expensive electronics in College can attract thieves. So it is best that these things are left at home or locked up securely.
Keep all hard paperworks safe. If you need the hard documents such as birth certificate, social security card better bring it to college only for the purpose for which you need them, then send them back home to keep all those important documents safe from being lost.
Candles even in small sizes. Most College residences have a policy that does not allow you to bring candles due to the risk of fire. So leave them at home, bring a long electric candles or a torch for when you need them in an emergency.
Appliances in your dorm. Before you bring appliances or equipment to College, it is a good idea to contact your roommate first so that things you bring will be duplicates. There is limited space in your dorm room for these types of appliances so it is a good idea to plan this in consultation with your roomy.
Prohibited drugs and alcohol. This is an obvious one, you should never bring illegal substances to College and try to limit the use of alcohol in your dorm room. There may even be a policy from the College about when Alcohol may be consumed.
